English: This painting stands on the main altar of the Sanctuary of St. Mir / Miro.
The sanctuary is built upon the place of his hermitage, in the woods near to his hometown, Canzo, Province of Como, Italy. The picture has been made in the 16th century and represents Miro with his proper attributes: simple black or dark pilgrim dress (before the post-mortem franciscanization, occured by the 18th century), and the representation of his face, close to the most ancient drawings of his "true face", taken from the testimony of contemporaries. |
